Sean Doyle | Assistant Coach

Sean Doyle will begin his second year as an assistant with the Utes in 2023, working primarily as Utah’s defensive coordinator.

Doyle was integral in Utah’s success in 2022 with the program finishing with a school record 10 wins (10-4 overall) and an ASUN regular season title.

  • He coached the Utes to finish first in the league in ground balls per game (31.93), also finishing second in the ASUN in scoring defense (11.36).
  • He led Samuel Cambere to an All-America honorable mention selection and the title of ASUN Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
  • Cambere ranked sixth nationally and third in the ASUN in caused turnovers per game (2.00), also ranking third in the league in ground balls per game (7.93).
  • In the final six games of the 2022 season, the Utes held four of their opponents to 10 points or less.

Doyle comes to Utah after playing under and coaching with McMinn at Robert Morris University. The Owings, Md., native spent the last two seasons as an assistant at RMU after serving as the defensive coordinator at Virginia Military Institute in 2019.

  • During his time as a coach at Robert Morris, Doyle saw the Colonials have back-to-back winning seasons with RMU defeating four ASUN Conference foes in 2021.
  • He ended the 2021 campaign coaching alongside McMinn at the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I/II All-Star Game for the South Team.
  • Despite the season being cut short due to COVID, Doyle helped the Colonials to a 4-2 record in 2020 in his first season at RMU with the program winning its final three games of the year against High Point (15-11), Detroit Mercy (16-13) and Marquette (11-10).

In his first season as a full-time coach, Doyle coached two-time All-Southern Conference first-team defender Kyle Walsh to finish as the national runner-up in caused turnovers per game (3.23) at VMI in 2019. The Keydets ranked sixth nationally in that statistic as a team, forcing 10.62 per game.

Prior to his coaching days, Doyle was a team captain at Robert Morris, playing in 60 games over four seasons while compiling 15 points (10 goals, 5 assists) on offense while also recording 47 groundballs and 23 caused turnovers on defense. He led the Colonials to a program-record 13 wins in 2018 with RMU advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

He finished his collegiate career by participating in the USILA Senior All-Star game, one of 10 RMU players to earn a spot in the all-star contest since 2008.Doyle graduated from Robert Morris in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in business management after being a four-year Dean’s List recipient and Northeast Conference Academic and Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.


Tim McDermott | Assitant Coach

Tim McDermott is set to enter his second season as an assistant coach and his fifth season with the Utah Lacrosse program after serving as the director of operations for three seasons prior.

In 2022, McDermott helped the Utes to an ASUN regular season title and 42 school records with Utah winning a program-best 10 games (10-4 overall). The Utes finished the year leading the ASUN in eight statistical categories with seven total Utah players earning a spot on the ASUN All-Conference teams.

During his time as the director of operations, McDermott handled the day-to-day logistics of running the lacrosse program for the Utes. Working closely with both the athletes and the coaching staff, McDermott was integral in transitioning the lacrosse program from a club sport to a Division I team.

During his time with the program as a club sport, he served as an assistant coach and director of operations for two seasons, helping lead the Utes to the 2018 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference championship and two appearances in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association tournament. Utah finished 16-1 overall in 2018 and had seven All-Americans, nine all-conference selections and finished fifth in the final coaches poll.

McDermott also spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant at Virginia from 2013-14, specifically working with the face-off specialists and goalies. Prior to his stint at Virginia, McDermott also spent time at Cortland State, Deep Run High School in Richmond, Va. And at Loyola (Md.).

As a player, McDermott was a two-time All-American for SUNY Geneseo. The two-time first-team All-SUNYAC player ranked second in the NCAA in face-off win percentage (.726, 241-of-332) as a sophomore in 2006. McDermott won 443-of-630 face-offs (.703) over his final two seasons at Geneseo.

McDermott transferred to Loyola University Maryland for his senior season and ranked ninth in the NCAA with a .586 face-off win percentage (109-of-186).

McDermott was a reserve player for Major League Lacrosse's Chicago Machine, playing in one game in 2010. McDermott, who is from Cortland, N.Y., earned his degree in business administration from SUNY Geneseo in 2007 and an MBA from Loyola in 2010.


Jimmy Perkins | Volunteer Assitant Coach

Utah Lacrosse alum Jimmy Perkins is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach. Perkins played at Utah from 2019-20 after starring for Robert Morris from 2017-18.

Perkins saw action in 18 games for the Utes, starting all six in a COVID shortened season in 2020. He led the Utes in goals (18), finishing second in points with 21 (3 assists). He scored a season-high four goals against Bellarmine and Jacksonville in 2020, scoring a goal on every shot he took against Jacksonville.

In 2019, the Pittsburgh, Pa., native scored 24 goals with 31 points (7 assists), ranking 12th in the NCAA with seven man-up goals. He scored a career-best six goals against Hartford that season, also scoring the first goal in Utah Lacrosse history against Vermont.

Perkins played at Robert Morris from 2017-18 after sitting out two seasons due to injury (2015-16). He earned second-team all-conference in 2018 after starting all 18 games, leading the program with 61 points (31 goals, 30 assists).

He set the school record for single-season assists (30), also ranking third in program history in single-season points (61). Perkins led Robert Morris to the Northeast Conference Tournament title in 2018 with the program advancing to the NCAA Tournament that year.

Perkins received his undergraduate degree in business management from Robert Morris.
